Funny Birthday Wishes for Friend in Hindi

A funny birthday wish for a friend in Hindi can be as short as one line: Suraj nikla, taare chamke, phool
khile… aur tum ek saal aur budde ho gaye! The sun rose, the stars shone, the flowers bloomed… and you got
one year older. Happy birthday, my old friend.

Every wish below carries the same three parts: the Hindi sentence, a pronunciation you can read aloud, and
the actual English meaning. The tags under each one tell you how hard it teases and whether anyone else
should read it over your shoulder.

If you came looking for wishes for a sister, a brother or a partner, or for something sincere rather than
funny, those live on their own pages — this list stays funny and stays about friends.

The wishes, grouped by how hard they tease (फनी बर्थडे विशेज़)

Hindi Birthday Wishes Roast Levels for Friends

The wishes below run from jokes anyone could read out loud to lines that only work between close friends,
and each shows the Hindi, the pronunciation and the English meaning together.

Pick your line in four steps

Choose the register first, then the roast level, then the line, then check the meaning — in that order,
because the first decision changes which lines are available to you.

  1. Pick your “you.” तुम (tum) is the safe default between friends. Details in
    Which “you” to use.
  2. Pick a roast level. 1/3 is fine in front of anyone; 3/3 is for a friend who already roasts back.
  3. Take the matching line from the tier below, and use the one where the punchline is about something
    your friend jokes about themselves.
  4. Read the English meaning out loud before you send it. If you would not say that sentence in your own
words, do not send it in Hindi either.

Hinglish-safe: when your Hindi is limited

Hinglish Funny Birthday Wishes for Friends

Short funny birthday wishes (1–2 lines)

Short Funny Birthday Wishes in Hindi for Friends

Short funny birthday wishes for a friend in Hindi run one or two lines and survive being pasted into a
WhatsApp status or an Instagram caption without being cut off.

  1. जनमदिन मुबारक हो, पागल! केक शेयर करना ऑप्शनल है। Janamdin mubarak ho, paagal! Cake share karna optional hai. — Happy birthday, madman. Sharing the cake is optional. 1 line · roast 2/3 · status-fit · register: implied tum
  2. एक साल और बड़े, एक साल और… बिल्कुल वही, यार। हैप्पी बर्थडे! Ek saal aur bade, ek saal aur… bilkul wahi, yaar. Happy Birthday! — A year bigger, a year exactly the same, mate. Happy birthday! 1 line · roast 1/3 · caption-fit · family-safe
  3. हे दोस्त, उम्र तेरी बढ़ी है, शरारतें मेरी जिम्मे हैं — केक पर कब है? Hey dost, umr teri badhi hai, shararatein meri zimmeda hain — cake par kya hai? — Friend, your age went up, the mischief is on me — what’s on the cake? 2 lines · roast 2/3 · DM-fit · register: terā
  4. देखते-देखते तु “बुढ़ापे” के क्लब में, भाई — मेंबरशिप फ्री, दिमाग अभी भी एक्स्ट्रा। Dekhte-dekhte tu “budhape” ke club mein, bhai — membership free, dimaag abhi bhi extra. — Before we knew it you joined the old-age club, brother — membership free, brain still extra. 2 lines · roast 3/3 · close friends only · register: tū

For a status, one line beats two: the second line is usually cut off in the preview. For a caption, the
setup-then-punchline shape works because people read captions faster than messages. Whether your caption
truncates depends on the app and the device, so send it to yourself first and look. If you would rather
send a picture than a message, paste your chosen line over a photo of the two of you — a friend’s birthday
post with a shared photo inside it beats any template.

When your own grammar needs changing

Hindi Birthday Wishes for Female and Male Friends

The same wishes work for a male or a female friend, and you can send them unchanged: what may change is the
Hindi verb ending for the person writing, not the person being wished.

Your sentence contains If you are a woman If you are a man
चाहता था / चाहता हूँ (I wanted / I wish) use चाहती leave as is
करता हूँ / कहना चाहता use the -ती form leave as is
हैप्पी बर्थडे, यार! and other lines without those verbs no change needed no change needed

Most wishes on this page need no edit from you at all. Only item 7 carries a first-person verb, so only that
one asks the question. This is the one grammar rule on this page that still needs a native check — it is
stated as a rule because it follows a general pattern of Hindi verbs, not because we verified it here.

Nothing in the joke itself is gendered. A female friend does not need softer wording; she needs the same
roast with the correct ending. Wishes for a girlfriend or partner are not here — that register is romantic
rather than platonic and changes the whole message, so it has its own page.

How to say “Happy Birthday” in Hindi: three phrases, three registers

How to Say Happy Birthday in Hindi

The everyday Hindi birthday greeting is जन्मदिन मुबारक हो (janamdin mubarak ho), while जन्मदिन की हार्दिक
शुभकामनाएँ (janamdin ki hardik shubhkamnayein) is the respectful written form, and हैप्पी बर्थडे is common
between friends.

Phrase What it means Who it suits
जन्मदिन मुबारक हो Birthday blessed / to-you-congratulations friends, group chats, captions
जन्मदिन की शुभकामनाएँ Good wishes for your birthday neutral — works for anyone
जन्मदिन की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएँ Heartfelt birthday wishes elders, colleagues, formal cards

Mubarak means “auspicious, blessed, lucky” and is traced to Arabic barakat (blessing) in the
Rekhta Urdu Dictionary entry for mubaarak — which
is why जन्मदिन मुबारक हो lands as a blessing and not as a casual “happy birthday”.

One caveat, as an observation rather than a rule: in public discussions among Hindi speakers about exactly
this question, people in their twenties and thirties repeatedly say they simply say “Happy Birthday” and
treat the long formal sentence as card language. That is lived usage reported by speakers, not a measured
finding, so read it as a warning about sounding stiff rather than as a statistic.

तुम, आप or तू: which “you” to use with a friend

Tum Aap or Tuu Hindi Birthday Wishes for Friends

Between friends in Hindi, तुम (tum) is the default “you”; आप (aap) signals respect and can read as formal
with a peer, while तू (tuu) is for very close relationships and can come across as demeaning if that
closeness is not actually there.

What follows is how these forms read between friends as reviewed for this page — it is a usage judgment,
not a grammar rule you can look up in a phrasebook.

Form Where it belongs Risk if misused
आप aap elders, colleagues, anyone you owe respect to with a friend, the distance is the joke — and sometimes it reads as cold instead
तुम tum the safe default between friends very little — this is the one to pick if unsure
तू tuu closest friends, siblings, deliberate roasting with anyone else it can read as insulting, whatever you meant

Start with तुम. Switch to तू only where the roast depends on it — items 2, 8 and 14 use it for exactly
that reason. If you would not say a line to someone in front of their parents, the intimacy the form is
claiming isn’t real yet.

Before you send: three things that break a Hindi birthday wish

Hindi Birthday Roast Etiquette for Friends

A Hindi birthday roast stops working when the line would still be insulting if a stranger said it — the
joke depends on a friendship only you can claim.

Roast ceiling: how far is too far. Test the line by swapping the speaker. If it works from you but would
be an offence from a colleague, the friendship is doing the work, and it only works between the two of you.
Roast something your friend has already joked about themselves — their age, their bill-paying skills, their
cooking. Never roast an insecurity they have not made a joke of first.

The word “kamina” inverts its own meaning. The entry for कमीने at
Rekhta Dictionary glosses it as “mean, ignoble,
narrow-minded, vulgar, low”, lists it as the plural of कमीना, and marks the origin as Persian. Between
friends in everyday usage it functions the other way, as affectionate address — which is exactly why it shows
up in so many birthday roasts. That reversal is the joke, and it is also why the word is risky in writing to
someone you are not close to. The dictionary records the hostile sense; the warmth comes from the
relationship, not from the word.

Two lines are everywhere — consider a third. On 16 September 2026 we searched for the two most frequently
reprinted funny birthday lines in Hindi, and here is what came back: the “LED bulb” couplet appeared on at
least five sites, including a Hindi news outlet, and the “flowers have sent a chalice” couplet on at least
six. One reprint had lost the first couplet’s punchline entirely, and another carried a mutated version of
the second line addressed to a husband. That is what happens to unattributed list content — it degrades
while it spreads — so if you use one of those lines, use it knowing your friend has seen it, or borrow its
setup and replace the punchline. The search was a verbatim phrase search across the open web, and anyone can
repeat it.

Safe to change What to leave alone
Add a name: Janamdin mubarak ho, Rahul! the verb ending, if you are a woman writing (see when your own grammar needs changing)
Swap the emoji the addressee word — दोस्त or यार — once you remove it, nobody knows who the joke is for
Trim a clause at the end rhyme pairs in two-line shayari: break one and both lines collapse
The joke object, if you know a better one for this friend anything you cannot verify means what you think it means

Hindi Birthday Wishes for WhatsApp and Instagram

You can copy any Hindi line on this page straight into WhatsApp, iMessage or Instagram, and no Hindi keyboard
is needed unless you want to write your own. Send one line to yourself before you send it to your friend,
though: Devanagari can display badly on older or bare-bones systems, while Hinglish always opens.

To type it yourself, add a Hindi phonetic layout — Windows has one built in, switchable with
Windows + Space (Microsoft’s Hindi IME guide);
iOS adds Hindi to your keyboard, with availability depending on model
(Apple’s instructions). Android steps, plus both of these in full,
are on the how to type Hindi page.

How these wishes were chosen and checked

How to Choose and Check Funny Hindi Birthday Wishes

None of these wishes was reprinted, adapted or spun from an existing wish-list site, which is also why this page holds fourteen wishes rather than two hundred. Every line either came from the set commissioned for this
page or was written for it, and each one carries tags instead of sitting in an unlabelled pile.

What we tested. Each line was searched verbatim across the open web to see whether it already circulates.
None of the lines here turned up. Two widely reprinted lines were searched as a control and came back on five
and six sites respectively, which is the evidence behind the advice above. The method and its date are stated
so anyone can repeat the check.

What is still unverified, stated plainly. A native Hindi reviewer has not yet read these wishes, so their
naturalness, every romanisation and every English meaning are pending confirmation. The speaker-gender note in
the grammar section is also still awaiting that check. The meaning of mubarak, the meaning of kamine, the
Windows and iPhone keyboard steps, and the deprecation notice are the items on this page that are sourced
rather than asserted.

What this page does not claim. No claim is made that anything here ranks, gets quoted by an AI system, or
earns engagement. These are wishes written to be correct and understood.

FAQ

Can I just translate my own birthday message into Hindi with a machine? You can, and it will usually read
as translated. Automatic translation has to guess the things English never marks — which “you” to use, the
gender of the speaker, and the word order the joke sits on — so a machine version of your own sentence often
arrives flat or oddly formal. Have someone who speaks Hindi read it once, or start from a line that already
parses.

Is “kamine” an insult when I say it to my friend? In dictionaries, yes — it means mean or base. In
friendship usage between people with real history, it reads as teasing rather than hostile. The difference is
entirely how well you know each other, which is why it appears only in the closest-friends tier here.

Should I send Devanagari or Hinglish? Send Devanagari if your friend reads Hindi comfortably — it looks
like effort, and it reads as a message rather than a transliteration. Send Hinglish if you are unsure they
will read it, or if the joke needs to land instantly in a group chat. Native speakers use both; only one of
them is safe for a writer who doesn’t.

Do I need a Hindi keyboard to send these? No. Copy the Hindi line and paste it. A Hindi keyboard matters
only if you want to write your own sentence, and the phonetic layout built into Windows or iOS covers that.
Skip the Google Transliterate API that older tutorials still recommend for this job: it was
officially deprecated on 26 May 2011, so
your device’s own layout is the working option.

What is the difference between “janamdin mubarak ho” and “janamdin ki hardik shubhkamnayein”? The first
is a warm everyday blessing suited to friends; the second is the respectful, formal version you would put in
a card to an elder. Both are correct Hindi, and only one of them belongs in a roast.

What do I send after the wish? A short follow-up does more than a longer message: one memory, one photo,
or the actual plan for the party you promised in item 5. That is the reply nobody has to translate.
